Step by Step Instructions for Drawing a T-Rex

1.
Begin by sketching the top of the dinosaur’s head. Use a curved line
for the snout, a scalloped line for the eye ridge, and another curved
line for the back of the head and the neck.

2.
Draw the dinosaur’s open jaws. First, use a curved line to sketch the
bottom of the upper jaw. Overlap this with another curved line,
outlining the top of the lower jaw. Double back a third curved line
beneath the second, completing the jaw.

3.
Draw the dinosaur’s neck. Use a curved line, and place a small curved
line at the base of it to indicate the far shoulder. Texture the neck
with curved lines descending from the jaw.

4. Draw a long curved line to sketch in the back and tail.

5.
Draw the forearm. Use curved lines to sketch the shape of the arm. Ring
the base of the arm with curved lines. Then, use short curved lines to
enclose the fingers and hand. Finally, draw small curved triangles to
indicate the claws.

6.
Draw a long curved line from the far shoulder, behind the arm, and to
the tip of the tail. This outlines the belly and the underside of the
tail.

7.
Outline the remaining arm using curved lines. Notice the bends at the
elbow and wrist. Then, use curved lines to enclose each of the fingers.
Finally, draw small curved triangles to indicate the claws.

8.
Draw the rex’s strong back legs, erasing guide lines as necessary. For
each of the rear legs, outline the shape using two long curved lines.
Notice the bulges of the knees, ankles, and calf muscles. Enclose the
toes using irregular “U” shaped lines, and draw a curved, triangular
claw at the tip of each. Add texture to the leg using small curved
lines, and draw a line from the forearm to the knee to indicate the
belly.

9.
Give your dinosaur teeth. Draw many triangular, pointed teeth along the
upper and lower jaws. Draw two curved lines at the corner of the jaw to
indicate skin. Draw the eye, and use curved lines for the nostril and
to texture the snout.

Color
your dinosaur. The tyrannosaurus rex is often depicted as green, brown,
or grey, but as no one has ever seen one, they may have been any color
you could imagine.
